We're Made of the Sturdier Stuff
Today is Monday. Some of you may feel defeated and ready to throw in the towel before your feet even hit the floor. Well, in case you haven’t noticed yet, I’ve made it my unofficial mission to put more light in our days instead of the dark stuff. One way I thought I’d do that is by sharing a list of the little activities that bring me joy, in the hopes that they'd do the same for you. This list is nothing flashy, just a few simple ways I discovered to add more of the good stuff to my days.
Wake up early. If you ask any of my past roommates, they will all tell you that I could sleep through a tornado. I never hear my alarms. But I downloaded this app called Kiwake, where it makes you run through a string of activities each morning before the alarm will go off- it’s essentially impossible to snooze the alarm. I’ve set mine to actually make me take a picture of the chemex each morning in order for the alarm to turn off. I wake up extra early, making time to pray and do something creative before I start my day- this is a game-changer, guys.
Reading Jamie Tworkowski’s book "If You Feel Too Much: Thoughts on Things Found and Lost and Hoped For.” This sweet book is compiled of personal essays stitched together with hope, honesty, and encouragement. With all of the hard things going on in the world today, I find myself overwhelmed with a desire to do something big and grandiose. However, I’m learning that God doesn’t need us to be super heroes, He just wants us to move. Jamie wrote, "I believe we are far from alone in this, that God’s been at this for a long time, this business of buying things back, making things new.” Buy this book, read it, take notes, and read it again, friends.
Big Lots. If you’ve never been to this store, it’s a mix between the dollar store and Target in terms of quality and prices. You could spend hours in this store. I suggest giving yourself a budget of $10-20, and see what you can find. This is one of those undiscovered things that I’ll still be trying to get everyone on board with, just like I was with geocaching in high school. So just let me know when you’re on the Big Lots bandwagon, it’s a party I promise.
United Pursuit Live. Turning on one of these videos as I get ready for bed or start my day is such a good routine. Listen here.
Hannah Brencher Monday Morning Emails. Hannah is an author and speaker based out of ATL. Her wisdom and insight into life and the way she puts words together and uses them for truth are so valuable and needed. If you sign up, she will send a virtal high-five every Monday morning straight to your inbox. Her words make you feel as if she’s sitting beside you as you scrape sleep out of your eyes and wait for the coffee to finish brewing, telling you over and over that you’re going to make it and that you’re stronger than you think. Why more people don’t start their Monday’s off this way is seriously beyond me. Sign up here, you won’t be sorry.
That’s all for now, friends. If you try any of these out and like them, please let me know. I’d also love to hear your favorite routines or life hacks!
If you’re reading this, please know that I’ll be over here rooting for you, always in your corner. I believe we're made with sturdier stuff than we realize. I’m happy to be the person constantly telling you that you're stronger than you think; sometimes all it takes is someone telling us we're worth the fight.
Now I suggest you go to the link below and listen to the updated boombox playlist. It will do your heart good, folks.
