And this makes ten.
PLAYLIST NO. 10, FEATURING THE FOLLOWING ARTISTS:
Ray LaMontagne, Sons Of The East, Rebecca Roubion, Lucie Silvas, Jon Foreman, The Shaowboxers and others.
Well friends, here we are- 10 playlists into this little boombox series. (For anyone who wants to know more about why I started this, you can read about it here).
It may be because this blog post was drafted in various airports, but something about sharing things with strangers fascinates me. No matter which airport, I love the hustle and bustle of businessmen, families, and musicians alike, all rushing around together towards this common goal of reaching their destinations. It's hard to keep your distance from everyone when you're forced to remove all belts, jewelry, shoes and personal items within seconds and chuck them into an x-ray bin. Inevitable small talk will take place, as we try to combat the awkwardness. Or take the squeezing yourself into seats that place 200-something humans unnaturally close together on this box floating in the sky. I'm convinced that the commonalities of humanity are seen clearest in shared experiences of uncomfortable situations.
Here's where this little boombox playlist come in.
What I hope these songs do is build some sort of bridge between me and whoever else reads this. Sort of like sharing strange experiences in airports, but with a bit more of an enjoyable outcome. Through these songs, maybe, just maybe, we can all sit in a shared experience that brings a bit more joy. Because at the end of the day, I think that's something we could all use more of.
This round, I've included some artists you've probably heard of before (I think we all agree that Ray LaMontagne's "Trouble" just doesn't get old). Also listed are some other artists you might not know, but whom I think you should. My roommate and I bought tickets at the last minute on Saturday to see Dave Barnes at The Ryman, where Lucie Silvas and The Shadowboxers opened. There's something to be said about the opening bands in a city like Nashville, that's busting at the seams with talent and humility. Both of these artists were too good not to include on this round.
May these songs give you a reason to take an extra loop around the block, dance in the kitchen, or do something bold. Maybe share them with a stranger next to you on an airplane or be that annoying person in the DMV line listening to music without headphones. However and wherever you hear these songs, may they leave you a little happier than before. From my speakers to yours,
