This world needs more cheerleaders.

I fully expect someone to read this and think “well that was too personal for the internet.” I decided a while ago to post the real things, because people need more of that. My goal is not to pretend to have it all together, but to encourage someone with the words I spill onto this page. With that said, here goes nothing.

I suggest you listen to this as you read.

Recently I shared an idea of mine with someone more experienced than me. What followed was the longest 45 minutes of my life:  a battle between me and my pride, as I fought back tears while this person voiced all the doubts and fears I’d had. It felt like a bad dream, where you keep looking outside of yourself and hoping that what you’re currently experiencing isn’t real, but understanding that it is real, so painfully real.

For anyone who’s ever been in this situation, here’s what I have to say to you:

  • People are people. Little humans. If there’s something that the God of the universe put you on this earth to do, one individual is not going to stand in the way of God accomplishing His purpose.

  • God is still good.

  • In a world that says, “Do what makes you happy” and “Pull yourself up by your bootstraps,” I say, “Find the things that you feel deep in your bones belong to the plans of God. Trust him every single step of the way and He’ll take care of the rest. And never once think this thing is about you."

  • Humans have a lot less power than we give them credit for.

  • Familiarize yourself with the promises of God, and stack your wood for the fire there.

  • Listen to the doubts less. Quit comparing yourself. The enemy doesn’t deserve your attention.

  • No matter what, God is good and he is here.

Cynicism and harsh conversations exist, kids. Sometimes you're forced to “go to blows with your fear incarnate." But just on the other side of that is the dwelling place of hope and encouragement. There are people like myself who genuinely believe God is bigger than the junk the world tries to throw at you. I’ll be an unofficial cheerleader,  the one rooting for the people that need more love and hope than they receive. To the brokenhearted and lowly, may these words reach out and hug you tight. But most of all, may they draw you to a God who is bigger.
